Amazonian Initiative Movement, a brave local initiative against female genital cutting in Sierra Leone

Amazonian Initiative Movement (AIM) is an independent women rights organization whose main focus is to reduce the incidence of female genital cutting (FGC). FGC is a harmful traditional practice which affects more than 90 percent of women and girls living in Sierra Leone. In addition, the organization also works against other violations of women's rights such as early and forced marriage and violence in marriage. Its head office is in Lunsar in the Port Loko district in the Northern region, and is about 80 km east of the capital, Freetown.
